I love photographing Watkins Glen State PArk in the fall. My favorite time is when the leaves have been changing and are starting to fall. Unfortunately this time of year seems to be increasingly fleeting. The leaves turn and then fall so quickly. Leaving behind bare trees and piles of dead leaves. I love the transition period. I like to capture images with both leaves on the trees and leaves freshly fallen… Read More
I love being out in the woods. I love trees. And I especially love trees with a unique look or texture to them. Think peeling flaking bark. Jagged lines and textures. Different shapes and surfaces. Tree trunks with color. Colors often generated by living in communion with other living organisms. Moss, lichen, vines. Most of all I like shape and texture. And the more unique and interesting it is the more I… Read More
I am fascinated by leaves. They appear almost as if from nowhere. If you aren’t paying clos enough attention, one minute trees are bare and the next second they are full of lush green leaves. The most fascinating times to see leaves are when they are first beginning to grow and emerge in the spring and when they are changing colors and falling in the Autumn. It is during these two times… Read More
Letchworth State Park is a beautiful place to visit. Its beauty is featured in so many different ways. Waterfalls, Rivers, Gorges, Overlooks, Trees, Forest, Trails. And the scenery is different depending on when you visit and the seasons. Not to mention this park is quite large. The shear size of the park makes it a challenge to see just the highlights on a day trip. The park deserves a multi day adventure…. Read More
One of my favorite things about a dog show is that there are always opportunities to learn. So many knowledgeable people to talk to about dogs. Different kinds of dogs. Different kinds of people. Doing different kinds of things with their dogs. Everyone leading different lives with different life experiences to draw from. Learning starts with seeing. An introduction. Something you never knew. Finding out that something exists that you were hitherto… Read More
The more time I spend at dog shows the more dog breeds I am introduced to and learn more about. The more dog breeds I fall in love with. But the one breed that has really has captured our hearts forever is the Bernese Mountain Dog. Bernese Mountain Dogs are in a lot of ways the optimal dog. They are large dogs but not overwhelmingly so. A Bernese Mountain Dog has energy… Read More
September is once of my favorite months of the year. One reason it is a favorite is that one of my favorite events of the year takes place at the end of the month. The last weekend of September features the Wine Country Circuit Dog Show.
In what appears to be on its way to becoming an annual tradition I have been at the Mighty Mosquito 99 event 3 out of the last 4 years. My first appearance was in 2021 to attempt the solo 100 mile event. And then I have been back twice to participate in the relay with a great group of friends. And I probably would have been there 4 years in a row… Read More
Earlier this year I ran the Sehgahunda Trail Relay. Sehgahunda is a fun running event. It is a trail marathon and relay. 26 miles on some of the most fun trails. Running through the forest at a beautiful state park in New York. I have run this event 5 times. I think I have run it in every possible configuration now. I have run it as a 4 person relay twice. It… Read More
