I Love An Opportunity To Learn About New Dog Breeds

One of my favorite things about a dog show is that there are always opportunities to learn. So many knowledgeable people to talk to about dogs. Different kinds of dogs. Different kinds of people. Doing different kinds of things with their dogs. Everyone leading different lives with different life experiences to draw from.

Learning starts with seeing. An introduction. Something you never knew. Finding out that something exists that you were hitherto unaware of.

My first time seeing an Azawakhs breed of dog

Enter dog breeds. There are too many dog breeds to imagine, especially if you are not already well versed in them. I consider myself fairly well informed about at least the mere existence of most AKC dog breeds. Yet every year it seems I learn of a new breed.

I find out about these new breeds because I will see one at a dog show. Either a long standing breed that simply is not popular enough in our area to have made an appearance at a dog show before. Or there is a breed that has gained enough popularity in the United States that is has now gained acceptance into the AKC.

My first opportunity to photograph a Mudik

Every year when it is time for the dog shows I get a program and look at the list of breeds participating. I look for names I have never photographed, rarely seen, and the best is names I have never heard of before.

When I see the name of a breed I have never heard of before it sparks a new level of excitement for me. It opens the doors to new possibilities. Dogs come in so many shapes and sizes. I am so excited to see something new. It is like the best Christmas present ever except its only September.
