There are 3 key variables to think about in photography. ISO which controls how sensitive you film/camera is to light. Shutter speed, which controls how long light is let into the camera. Aperture or F stop. This controls how much light is allowed in through your lens. If you notice anything about these 3 variables it is that they are all related to how light interacts with your camera. Each of these… Read More

I love to get out in nature. Hiking or running. Often with a camera. One thing I always enjoy is noticing what flowers are in bloom during different times of the year. Wildflowers are one of my favorite types of plants because they live in harmony with the environment. They seem to spend most of their time seemingly dormant or underground. They are often just a patch of green mixed in amongst… Read More

I have really grown to love flowers. I probably photograph them as much if not more than any other subject. Especially since I have really gotten to enjoy planting them and growing them right at home. I really enjoy perennial flowers. Flowers that regrow and flower year after year. Observing how different flowers return and grow at different times of year. Their genetic makeup and the environment working together to shape how… Read More

Photography has lead me down so many avenues I never expected. That is one of the biggest blessings of falling in love with this art form. One thing I never expected to become so obsessed with is flowers. I love flowers. And I love photographing flowers. There is so much variety in flowers that every one you see is like having an entirely new experience. But, there is one type of flower… Read More

I love spring. It is a time of growth and renewal. It feels like anything is possible. And it is the beginning of the opportunities to start photographing flowers again. I never thought I would enjoy photographing flowers so much but it is something I have really grown to love. I look forward to it every year.

I always try to keep my annuals alive as long as possible. When the weather gets cold enough that it starts to frost sometimes over night I move the annuals around. I move all my annual flowers out to our front porch where they will be under a roof so should not get frosted.

We had planned on going to an arts festival today, but the forecast was for rain all day long. So, we decided to stay home and relax instead. The decision to stay home ended up allowing me to create my own unique collection of art. I went outside to photogrpah our flowers that we have planted and it started to rain. It rained for a good long time, but it stopped well… Read More

We as people often have many things we want to do or accomplish in our lives. And just as often we have many things we simply never get around to doing. There are an infinite number of reasons and excuses why we may not get something done that we have always wanted to do. Often the most obvious reason we don’t get something done is that we haven’t prioritized it. As a… Read More

I always love finding new flowers to photograph. Something I have never seen before always piques my interest. Several years ago I saw these tiny little purple flowers growing along the edge of the woods where we live. I started photographing them and looking for them every year. And the flowers returned every year. Always blooming in the same little area of the woods. Never seeming to spread. I assumed these flowers… Read More

I love flowering trees. Over the years we have tried to plant a variety of flowering trees around our house. We have had varying degrees of success in this endeavor. I do not have the greenest of thumbs. And I probably do not pick the best trees and or plant them in the best part of the yard, or prepare them and care for them the way they should be before and… Read More
