My Favorite Annual Flower: Dahlia

Photography has lead me down so many avenues I never expected. That is one of the biggest blessings of falling in love with this art form. One thing I never expected to become so obsessed with is flowers.
I love flowers. And I love photographing flowers. There is so much variety in flowers that every one you see is like having an entirely new experience.
But, there is one type of flower I have really fallen in love with. That is the Dahlia.

Dahlias come in a wide range of varieties. They have a multitude of shapes sizes and colors. But each one is still recognizably a Dahlia pretty much just by looking at them.
Because of their variety I have probably bought more Dahlias than any other type of flower Maybe more than most other types of flowers combined. But I must see and photograph each and every one.
There are so many to choose from every season. I am always pleasantly surprised when I stumble across a new variety. It was many years into my obsession with flowers when I stumble across the flower featured in this article. I wasn’t looking for it but I found it, or maybe it found me.

These particular Dahlia flowers have a base color of a light yellow on the petals. Then there is this subtle reddish orange that almost defies description, at least by me. This reddish orange streaks across part of the center of the petal. And what really captivates me when trying to photograph the flower is how the reddish orange lines the very slightest edge of each flower petal. It is almost so subtle that it is difficult to see.
What are your favorite flowers?
