One of the reasons I love trail running is that it brings me closer to nature. Trail running gives me another reason to get outside and enjoy nature. Even better trail running encourages me to explore areas I might not otherwise visit. Trail running also allows me to cover more ground in a shorter time than I would be able to on a regular hike, so I see more nature on one… Read More
Saturday October, 5th I woke up at 3:00 AM to ride with a friend five hours to the High Peaks region of the Adirondack park in NY. Our plan was to summit two of the 46 high peaks in the region on our hike. We planned to hike up Giant Mountain and then depending on time, as we had to drive back that night and wanted to be off the mountain before… Read More
Last weekend I wanted to plan a trip to do some birding photography. I decided I wanted to go out to someplace where I would have a good likelihood of being able to photograph Bald Eagles or Osprey. I decided that I would go to the Tioga-Hammond Lakes in PA because I know there are several nesting Osprey in that area and I have often sighted Bald Eagles there as well. During… Read More
Last weekend I took a trip with the plan to photograph some birds in the woods up in Ithaca, NY. However, the weather did not really cooperate with my idea of good photography weather. I generally prefer to use natural light whenever possible. On this day the sky was very overcast. There was very little light and particularly little making it into the woods. I decided to use this low light photography… Read More
I was going through some of my old photos and came across this shot. This isn’t one pf the best photos I have taken but I like it because it reminds me of the interactions of nature and an experience I had being able to watch the interaction take place. I think it is important to be able to appreciate our artwork for reasons other than technical quality or sale-ability and this… Read More
Today is the second day of Spring 2013 and here in my corner of the woods in upstate NY we still have snow in the upper elevations such as where I live. I have been trying to be more active of late. I have been bored with regular exercise routines and wanted to do something that I enjoy more but is still a good workout. I decided I would take that motivation… Read More
In September I decided to do something that I do not usually do photographically. I took a trip to a location for the specific reason of photographing one and only one animal. Normally I like to travel to places that give me a range of options for photographic subjects. I like to travel to places that offer possible mammals, birds, and landscapes. One subject I have always wanted to photograph is Elk…. Read More

As a wildlife and nature photographer sometimes what you plan to do and what you actually end up doing are two very different things. As a wildlife and nature photographer I am very dependant on two things the weather and the wildlife itself. These two factors can be researched, studied, and planned for but I will never be fully in control of them.
Here are some of yesterdays best photos from my visit to Tioga-Hammond Lakes in PA.
