I love birds. Especially birds of prey. Owls are such a unique type of birds. I have not had many opportunities to photograph them in the wild. However, I have had opportunities to see them up close in other circumstances. It is really fun to get to look at them so close up. Being able o study them and see their mannerisms. Creating these nice close up photographs of these owls was… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 199. Today was a good day for pet portraits. It is nice to relax at home and see what one of our pets is cooperative enough for some portraits. The dogs did not want to have anything to do with my photographs. One cat wouldn’t sit still for photos. The other cat was hiding somewhere. But Paisley was sitting in the middle of the coffee table…. Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 67. I recently was finally able to capture some good images of our cat Monkey. She usually doesn’t cooperate for photos. After having that recent success I was inspired to try again. For todays photos I thought I would try to capture some more portrait style photographs of our cat Monkey. I really like to use my macro lens for pet portraits, especially at home. That… Read More

As you have been reading this series of articles about the different tools I use in service of creating my photography I am sure it is becoming clear that all the gear I use serves a purpose. This continues to hold true for the next piece of equipment I will discuss. The only difference is that with this tool always plan in advance to use this tool on a photo shoot. Introducing… Read More

Jethro carried around this toy almost the entire time I photographed him back in April of 2014. He was such a fun and loving dog. I really enjoyed creating great images with him. I am currently working on a project to help bring more awareness to the amazing work the Chemung County SPCA does. The project will consist of an art exhibit, on display at the Chemung County Historical Society, featuring photographs… Read More

Bear was a fairly animated dog when I spent time with him to photograph him. He was very curious about just about everything. He spent the whole time outside exploring the large enclosure. Bear investigated all the smells. Bear spent a fair amount of time looking out of the enclosure staring at things that he found interesting. Bear also became very interested in sounds. Whenever he heard a noise he would look… Read More

Kenya seems to be the kind of dog that is ready for anything. She was not particularly energetic when I photographed her but you could tell she has the energy just ready to unleash it when the right activity is offered to her. Kenya is a friendly happy dog who is ready to hop up on the seat with you and be petted or is equally content trotting around finding her own… Read More

I have been lucky enough to work with Paddy twice now. When I first met her she had just recently come to the shelter and she seemed a bit down. You could just look at her and sense that she was sad. When I visited her this weekend it was obvious that her mood has improved. She is adjusting to life at the shelter well. You can see she has a different… Read More

I once again had a wonderful opportunity to photograph the dogs currently for adoption at the Chemung County SPCA. There are currently three dogs available for adoption: Bear, Kenya, and Paddy. Each of these dogs will make a wonderful friend for some lucky human(s). If you love dogs stop in and pay them a visit. They will appreciate it even if you can’t take one of them home. Stop in and say… Read More

I’ve made a lot of friends over the years and if you are a dog lover like me you count a lot of dogs among them. Two of my best friends became part of my lives completely by coincidence. We met our dogs Brynn and Kira at the Chemung County SPCA and they became family. You can meet your next best friend at the Chemung County SPCA too.
