There are certain subjects that I really like to photograph. I will seek them out and try to capture a variety of images of them. This is especially true when I am pursuing photography in the area where I live. Sometimes when we travel we can get excited about photographing new things. And new things are great and should be celebrated. But don’t forget about the things you love already.
The best way to practice photography regularly is to use what you have available. So in that vein, I am going to write a series of blog posts about how I do that. First and foremost in photography you obviously need a camera. Any camera. Any camera at all. You can create beautiful images with any camera. This is especially true in an age when the majority of photographed are viewed on… Read More
In life we all have things we are good at. We have things we love. And we also have things we share with others. Sometimes these different aspects of our lives overlap. We share our love of Star Wars with our friends that also love Star Wars. It is fun to talk about and it brings us joy. And seriously who doesn’t love Star Wars. We also pursue different activities and become… Read More
Doing things that scare us is not easy. But, I would argue that it is essential for leading a life you will look back fondly on. Even if you don’t succeed at these things, you will have tested yourself. You will have gone on a journey. And you will have answered questions about yourself. You won’t look back on your life questioning yourself. You lived your life fully. For me doing things… Read More
There are so many things to love about photography, but what I think it really comes down to for me is time. Time is always moving. We never get a second back. No replays or do overs. We can’t press pause and stop to enjoy this one thing longer than the time we have in that moment.
Sometimes I am inspired to create some images that are unique and different. When I look for something to inspire me to get outside my comfort zone it often centers around light. I don’t normally think of myself as a particularly creative person. So, finding the inspiration to be more creative takes just the right circumstances. Let me think. Light. Motion. Lack of light. Moving light.
I have probably written about The Corning Museum of Glass before. Probably in a very similar manner. So this may be a repetitive post for some who have seen other posts. But, I feel like this is something I want to write about even if repeatedly because it is important to me to write about other forms of art and local places I can engage with art. And I love to talk… Read More
In 2021 I did something I had never done before. I took on a challenge in my photography that would hopefully push me out of my comfort zone. I started a the year off with a 30 day photography challenge. During that time I took at least one, usually way more than one, photograph every day. And then I shared one photo taken that day here on my blog. Then after one… Read More
I love zoos. We have had going to zoos as a tradition for us for a long time. I hadn’t been to a zoo in a while until recently. But, zoos were instrumental in shaping my love for animals and in developing and shaping my love and skills in photography. There can be some controversy surrounding zoos and the lives animals have there. They can be very important things that we should… Read More
When I think about photography I have two overriding philosophies. Take photographs whenever you can. Use whatever camera you have to take the photos. In photography circles a lot of debate and conversation can be had about when is the best time to create photography. While there are some merits to this conversation, to me the answer is always take photographs anytime you have the opportunity to take photographs. In this age… Read More
