One photo a day challenge: Day 357. I have really loved the amount of experimentation this 365 day photo challenge has inspired in me. I am almost scared to stop at the end of the year because I might lose the motivation to try new things. Todays photo: Large black background photo background. Sparkling Christmas tree decoration. One strand of colored Christmas lights casting light on the tree creating the colored lighting… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 356. Walking around the house thinking about what to photograph. My first idea was to photograph some fresh bought produce that we had just picked up at the grocery store. Maybe an onion. Then I walked by a shelf with a nice Christmas decoration on it. And my mind flipped into a totally different gear. A jar. Frosted glass. Decorated with glitter. Merry Christmas written across… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 351. Switching things up a bit. Playing around with food. Fruit. The two fruits I eat the most. Apples and bananas. Used two different background materials for nice clean non-distracting visuals. Illuminated the phot with two Lume Cube Panel Mini lights. Never realized there was so much texture in the skin of a banana. Not sure that will make me want to eat them more or… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 349. Today I returned to a specific subject matter that I photographed way back when I started this project over 300 days ago. I wanted to try to be a little more creative with the items I was photographing. Intersperse some of the items with other items. And now I had a few new tools to incorporate into this type of photography. So that added a… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 348. Had fun experimenting with some night photography. Tonight I worked with some of the newly added Christmas Lights outside out house. I used an f/16 aperture to create the starburst effect of the Christmas Lights. In the background you can see the just barely illuminated trees from the lights I placed out by the trees. And off in the distance the Christmas lights from out… Read More

One phot a day challenge: Day 341. Utilized another new piece of gear for my “photo studio”. A large 4 foot by 4 foot black background. Experimented with different lights. Tried different configurations of lights. Moved the lights in different patterns. Moved lights fast. Then slowed the movements down. More lights. Fewer lights. Only moving lights. Then static lights with moving lights streaking across. This last configuration is one of the photos… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 329. Trying to fuel my creativity. Playing with long exposures. Experimenting with moving light. Working with holiday themes. I think I probably created some more aesthetically pleasing photos without the moving lights, but I thought this was the perfect combination of the creativity of the moving lights and the Christmas lights that are decorating the image and lighting the scene as well.

One photo a day challenge: Day 323. I love the variety of colors in this photo. Using some decorative corn cobs. Getting close up for a macro shot featuring just a small group of kernels. I focused on a section where the kernels were a little more irreguluar. Trying to find a spot that represented a wider variety of colors as well. Angling the lens to reduce the depth of field. Kernels… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 246. Today was a fun day of exploration. It simply amazes me just how much nature there is to see. I saw so many new sights. All without driving more than 2 hours from my house. Every time I daydream about escaping to some far of place I need to remind myself of all the wonders just outside my door.

One phot a day challenge: Day 201. I am really excited about this photograph. Not because it is some amazing photograph or anything like that. I am excited about what this photograph represents. This photograph represents trying and failing. And trying again, and again until there is progress and then hopefully success. If there is something you want to accomplish, there is only one way to make it happen. Keep trying until… Read More
