For this image the camera settings were: ISO 400, 60mm, f/3.5, 1/125 sec. For this current iteration… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 220. We went to the park for a walk today. There were rabbits everywhere. Seemed like a good time to make friends with the tiny woodland creatures. The rabbits at the park are not particularly shy. If I am slow and cautious enough. The rabbits will adjust to my presence and I can get closer. This is probably the most close up photo of a rabbit… Read More

One photo a day challenge: Day 195. I have been seeing more snakes in the yard lately. I always enjoy seeing all varieties of wildlife in our yard. Even the snakes. Despite seeing more snakes in recent days I haven’t had any good opportunities to photograph any of the snakes recently. Today I went outside thinking I would try to photograph some of the flowers I don’t get a chance to photograph…. Read More

Some days when you go birding at a National Wildlife Refuge like Montezuma you see a smattering of everything. There are some ducks. Shorebirds are foraging along the shallows. Raptors are soaring overhead. And there are songbirds in the trees. On other trips to the wildlife refuge the trip feels more like, and now presenting the star of our show…. One photo a day challenge: Day 139. Today I had no real plan for my photography. I just wanted to get outside. Wander around. Look at nature. See what looks interesting to photograph. I didn’t know what I would be photographing. To give myself the most opportunities for creating images it made sense to use my most versatile lens. I took my 60mm f2.8 macro lens. I started off photographing some of… Read More

The goal was to go out and create some photography out in nature. Find interesting subjects. Take advantage of a beautiful day. Enjoy nature. Enjoy nature and hopefully come away with having created some beautiful images. I had… Read More

One of which came in handy in a way I was not expecting. When I set out to take photographs and I have a goal in mind, I take the gear I need to create those… Read More

Often but not always when I venture out to create photographs I have a subject in mind that I would like to try to capture during my time. In some types of photography the subject will always remain the intended subject. If I plan to photograph a waterfall I show up at the location of the waterfall and I photograph it. The way I photograph it might need to change, that is… Read More

Baltimore Oriole perched on oak tree in Upstate, New York

One of my favorite song birds has always been the Baltimore Oriole. I don’t know if I like them because I grew up watching and playing baseball and the Baltimore Orioles were a team and one of the most popular players in baseball, Cal Ripken Jr., played on that team but that is certainly possible. Baltimore Orioles are probably one of the more well known species of birds again probably owing to… Read More
