Hiking. I enjoy hiking. I often seek out trails to hike and explore them with my camera. This can vary from local river trails right in town, to local nature centers, nearby state parks and trails that traverse the entire state but passes nearby where i live.

There are certain subjects that I really like to photograph. I will seek them out and try to capture a variety of images of them. This is especially true when I am pursuing photography in the area where I live. Sometimes when we travel we can get excited about photographing new things. And new things are great and should be celebrated. But don’t forget about the things you love already.

The best way to practice photography regularly is to use what you have available. So in that vein, I am going to write a series of blog posts about how I do that. First and foremost in photography you obviously need a camera. Any camera. Any camera at all. You can create beautiful images with any camera. This is especially true in an age when the majority of photographed are viewed on… Read More

How do you approach your craft? You might read that sentence and think that this doesn’t apply to me. But just give me a second to elaborate. When I say Craft, I do not necessarily mean art or the act of creating something specifically. Craft can include art and creation, but it doesn’t necessarily have to. When I think about Craft, I think about anything that you do with intention. An act… Read More

In life we all have things we are good at. We have things we love. And we also have things we share with others. Sometimes these different aspects of our lives overlap. We share our love of Star Wars with our friends that also love Star Wars. It is fun to talk about and it brings us joy. And seriously who doesn’t love Star Wars. We also pursue different activities and become… Read More

Over the next several posts here I want to talk a little about how I became involved in photography. I’ll talk a little about what first got me into photography. Then I will share about the journey I took to get from my first memories of photography through where I am presently. My discussion will take the form of a few different tracts. I’ll talk about my personal experiences. What interactions in… Read More

Where do you find inspiration and motivation to create art? I am of two minds about artistic creation and inspiration and motivation. I have really come to believe that if you want to be someone who creates art on a regular basis, especially if you aspire to be a professional, you have to show up on a daily basis and do the work. You have to do the work of creating art…. Read More

Photography tools are ever evolving. Change happens more rapidly now than ever before. The choices you make in the tools you use will shape the photography you create. In my last blog post I talked about some of the first tools I ever used to create photography. In this post I will talk more about the gear I have used to develop my photography after I began to fall in love with… Read More

I don’t often recall a lot from my childhood, but one thing I do remember distinctly for some reason is having a camera. I had a camera that used the 110 format film. For those who don’t remember, or weren’t born yet, the style of camera that at least I had was basically a small brick. Especially when compared to what we have available to us now. The camera itself was a… Read More

Doing things that scare us is not easy. But, I would argue that it is essential for leading a life you will look back fondly on. Even if you don’t succeed at these things, you will have tested yourself. You will have gone on a journey. And you will have answered questions about yourself. You won’t look back on your life questioning yourself. You lived your life fully. For me doing things… Read More
