There are a lot of places I like to visit over and over again. They are often nearbby state parks. The area where I live in the Southern Finger LAkes Region of New York is blessed with many beautiful parks.

I love photographing trees because of all the variety of texture. Winter adds an extra element of texture. I have a love hate relationship with winter. I really don’t mind cold weather as long as it isn’t extreme bitter cold. Putting on some warm clothes and heading outside for an adventure or just some fresh air is a nice experience for me. Especially if I have something to point my camera at.

Just a short drive could be the key to unlocking photography. I live in an area full of overwhelming natural beauty. I often don’t have to go far to find photography subjects that I love. However, I love to photograph a great many things. And as they say variety is the spice of life. So, I try to mix it up in my photography. Letchworth State Park has a landscape like no… Read More

The fall leaves seem to be dropping from the trees so fast this year. Quickly shifting through shades of color. Brown leaves drop. Scattering on the ground. Blowing down the road. I love fall foliage and I feel like I have missed almost all of it already. I really wanted to get outside and hike in it and photograph the fall leaves. On Friday after work I headed up to Ithaca to… Read More

I love being out in the woods. I love trees. And I especially love trees with a unique look or texture to them. Think peeling flaking bark. Jagged lines and textures. Different shapes and surfaces. Tree trunks with color. Colors often generated by living in communion with other living organisms. Moss, lichen, vines. Most of all I like shape and texture. And the more unique and interesting it is the more I… Read More

I am fascinated by leaves. They appear almost as if from nowhere. If you aren’t paying clos enough attention, one minute trees are bare and the next second they are full of lush green leaves. The most fascinating times to see leaves are when they are first beginning to grow and emerge in the spring and when they are changing colors and falling in the Autumn. It is during these two times… Read More

Letchworth State Park is a beautiful place to visit. Its beauty is featured in so many different ways. Waterfalls, Rivers, Gorges, Overlooks, Trees, Forest, Trails. And the scenery is different depending on when you visit and the seasons. Not to mention this park is quite large. The shear size of the park makes it a challenge to see just the highlights on a day trip. The park deserves a multi day adventure…. Read More

In June of 2024 we went on a camping trip to Shenandoah National Park. This was our first trip there. And there was so much to see and do. We camped at the Loft Mountain Campgrounds, which I really enjoyed. The campground had a nice combination of foliage and openness. We were often surrounded by wildlife. From the birds constantly flitting about in the bushes surrounding our campsite, to the rabbits along… Read More

Our recent trip to Shenandoah National Park was filled with amazing beauty. But there was one thing in particular you can get here better than anyplace I have ever been. Scenic vistas. Do you love beautiful sunsets and sunrises? We were blessed with so many its hard to count during our trip. Much of this is luck. There is no way to know when you plan a trip if those scenic vistas… Read More

Hiking. I enjoy hiking. I often seek out trails to hike and explore them with my camera. This can vary from local river trails right in town, to local nature centers, nearby state parks and trails that traverse the entire state but passes nearby where I live. Some of my weaknesses as a holographic and human is that I don’t always have the patience required for a given situation and I don’t… Read More
