The Norwegian Buhund. This is a really fun look at a dog moving through the agility course. The Norwegian Buhund is running right towards the camera. The view from the camera is right over the top of a tunnel obstacle on the agility course. You can see the Norwegian Buhund running towards it. The Norwegian Buhund has just completed the teeter totter obstacle and is leaping off of that and onto the… Read More
The Newfoundland. Mostly I photograph dogs at dog shows close up. Trying to isolate the dogs alone in the photo. Sometimes I do like to capture images of dogs and their handlers. For this image I was in the right place to be able to photograph the lineup as the show judge was pulling out his favorites for a short list at the breed ring where the Newfoundland dogs were exhibiting. I… Read More
The Nederlandse Kooikerhondje I like this photo showing three dogs in a row. Each dog further behind the dog that is the subject is increasingly out of focus. The shallow depth of field created by the f-stop of 3.5 takes the detail out of the image the farther into the background a part of the photo is. The other dogs lose their shape and detail as each one is farther behind the… Read More
The Miniature Schnauzer. I love the way the beard and long fur on this Miniature Schnauzer is swishing to the side as the dog trots across the show ring. I like it when I am able to get in close to a relatively small dog. I was able to photograph the Miniature Schnauzer with my 70-200mm zoom lens. And I didn’t even need to zoom in all the way to 200mm. Being… Read More
The Miniature American Shepherd. The first time I saw one of these dogs I thought it was just a really small Australian Shepherd. It was interesting to find out that these dogs are an entirely different breed, the Miniature American Shepherd. I love the Australian Shepherd breed, but I am not quite sure how I feel about the Miniature American Shepherd. They are very similar in appearance to the Aussies I love,… Read More
The Mastiff is a truly enormous dog. The sheer size of a Mastiff is hard to come to grips with until you have seen them up close. They range in sizes but when you see the larger examples of the breed it really puts things into perspective. The weight range for a fully grown male ranges from 160-230 lbs. and the weight range for an adult female is 120-170 lbs. When you… Read More
The Leonberger is another one of the giant breed dogs that I just adore. I love big dogs for their sheer size, but when you add in that soft fluffy long fur those dogs really have my heart. Big soft fluffy dogs just make me want to curl up with them and snuggle on the couch. The Leonberger breed has a similar color pattern across the different individuals I have seen. Dark… Read More
The Lancashire Heeler is a cute little dog. I only learned about the Lancashire Heeler a couple of years ago. I have only had an opportunity to photograph the Lancashire Heeler twice. The Lancashire Heeler standing perfectly ready in the show ring gives a good representation of the size and shape of this dog. I think that is really helpful for anyone not familiar with this breed of dog. This photo clearly… Read More
The Labrador Retriever. Not sure I need to say much about the Labrador Retriever. Most of us have a pretty good mental image of a Labrador Retriever. The Labrador Retriever has been the most popular breed in America for 30 years according the to AKC. The representation of a Labrador Retriever that I always conjure is a happy go lucky dog. A dog that was always looking for a fun time. Just… Read More
The Komondor is such and intriguing looking dog. The way the Komondor’s cur forms chords is so interesting. It is pretty unique. I love the look as the handler and the Komondor make the turn as they move around the show ring. The Komondor’s fur swings and bounces. The thick chords of fur on the Komondor appear to be swinging outward in all directions. And it is cool that in this image… Read More
