When we planned our adventure of riding around each of the 11 Finger Lakes we had things spaced out nicely so that we could slowly build our distance. We had time between each planned ride for more training and building our endurance as our distance climbed. But as we reached the end of our planned riding schedule things got a little cramped. After having to delay our Seneca Lake ride because we… Read More
The sky is rarely the same from moment to moment. That is except when there is a cloudless sky. And people often exclaim that it is a beautiful day with phrases such as a “bluebird sky”. And for me that doesn’t quite resonate. Sure it is nice if it is sunny and warms up. But to me a cloudless sky is least interesting and isn’t particularly beautiful. And I don’t really like… Read More
On August 30, 2025 we set out to ride all the way around Seneca Lake. A route that would be over 82 miles. By far the most miles I would ride in a day to that point. I was getting a little nervous in the lead up to this ride. Our previous high mileage day was when we rode around 2 different lakes back to back for a total of a little… Read More
This year a friend who knows me all too well apparently put me in touch with a friend of theirs who had an idea. They wanted to ride around all 11 of the Finger Lakes in New York. And the goal was to do it all in the spring and summer of 2025. Up to this point I have been riding my bike pretty regularly but I have never undertaken a serious… Read More
I love it when our communities are active and doing things. I don’t get out and create this type of imagery as much as I used to, but highlighting people in the community and the events and activities going on can have a powerful impact. I used to go to local events more often and bring my camera to photograph them. Local street painting festivals. Suicide awareness and support events. Events hosted… Read More
I love camping. My wife and I started going on regular camping trips years ago and it has been one of the most enjoyable experiences. Often when we camp we will take one of our dogs. But sometimes the dogs are not amenable to the idea. A few years ago We attempted to take Colton, our Bernese Mountain Dog, and River, our Border Collie, on a short camping trip together. We had… Read More
I really don’t like shopping. I generally try to avoid it. But on a recent vacation I did buy some clothes. Turns out it did not all fit me. The closest location to return the clothes is 2 hours away from me in Rochester, New York. So, how to justify a 2 hour drive to return clothes that don’t fit? Photography for the win. I have a guide book for waterfalls in… Read More
I am fortunate to live in an area rich in natural beauty. So many great public lands available to access and enjoy all year long. Some of my favorite beautiful state parks are under an hours drive away. How much more could you ask for. Well, you could ask for a state park that takes those beautiful close to home state parks and scales them up to the next level. And that… Read More
Running has brought me a lot of things over the years. One of the most important things running has brought into my life is friendship and community. After several years of battling a variety of different nagging injuries that have kept me from being as much of a part of the running community as I would want to be I was feeling a little lost in my pursuit of running. I have… Read More
I love to get out into nature. Often when I plan to go outside there is a specific reason. I want to photograph a waterfall. Or I want to hike some trails. And some places are great for specific experiences. But what really can make a place special is if it is a haven of a wide variety of natural experiences. This is what I love about Tanglewood Nature Center.
