My Favorite Cat Photos

If you know me, you know that I am unabashedly a dog person. Dogs are my gold standard for animal companions. But, I am also an animal lover.

I love all animals. I enjoy the company of just about any animals. Except spiders. I respect their place in nature, but they can just leave me alone.

And I most animals are beautiful in their own way. And that goes for cats.

I don’t dislike cats. I just don’t prefer cats. Cats are beautiful creatures. But they are also mercurial. They are not here to bond with us and live in harmony. They seem to be halos agents. As demonstrated by just about every cat we have ever lived with.

Yes. I have lived with a lot of cats. I owe this to my wife. She loves cats in a way that I do not. And if nothing else because of her love of cats I have had the fortune of having these beautiful photography subjects in my life.

Cats are no doubt beautiful animals. They can be subjects for photographs in many ways. And their natural proclivity to sit around and relax when they are not creating mischief allows for ample photo opportunities.

I really should take advantage of their presence more for my photography. It would at least help me hone my craft in ways I don’t usually. Because our cats are exclusively indoor cats I can work with natural light indoors. And I can also experiment with flash and other lighting options.

The cats are often indifferent to my attempts to photograph them. This has allowed me to capture many images including the ones I shared here. I do wish I had photographed our cats more in the past and I need to be more consistent in the present and into the future.

Despite my relationship with cats in general, I am always sad when one is no longer with us and I have few photos of them to remember them by.
