“The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means… Read More
I really like working with colors and shapes. Contrast of dark and light. Details versus softness. I think that is what I find when I see a photo of an inanimate object that I really like. There is a quality of contrast about it. There is an interplay of two things that don’t quite go together.
Sometimes I am inspired to create some images that are unique and different. When I look for something to inspire me to get outside my comfort zone it often centers around light. I don’t normally think of myself as a particularly creative person. So, finding the inspiration to be more creative takes just the right circumstances. Let me think. Light. Motion. Lack of light. Moving light.
My photography typically focuses on nature, wildlife, and animals. On specific occasions like sports events I photograph people. Probably the least often subject I photograph would be any type of cityscapes. I love seeing beautiful photography of cities. Skylines of cities can be majestic. Photography of life unfolding in the concrete jungle can be inspiring. For me cities simply don’t inspire me to get my camera out, most of the time. I… Read More
Sometimes I get the idea to try and do something well outside my normal style of photogrpahy. During the holiday season of 2021 I decided to try and do something interesting with lights. Holiday decorations were all about. I decided to see what I could do. Placed lights outside on the ground to illuminate the main subject, the tree. Then I triggered the camera for a 30 second exposure. And I walked… Read More
One of my favorite holiday traditions in our area is the Parade of Lights. This holiday parade features slow moving displays featuring lights. Some displays are people with lights. Other displays in the Parade of Lights are large vehicles adorned with lights. I like to set up where I can watch the parade move down the street right across from me. I bring my tripod and set up with a wide angle… Read More
One photo a day challenge: Day 356. Walking around the house thinking about what to photograph. My first idea was to photograph some fresh bought produce that we had just picked up at the grocery store. Maybe an onion. Then I walked by a shelf with a nice Christmas decoration on it. And my mind flipped into a totally different gear. A jar. Frosted glass. Decorated with glitter. Merry Christmas written across… Read More
One photo a day challenge: Day 336. Lack of day light and lack of my typical subjects during the colder seasons is really forcing me to get more creative for this challenge. Today I got way outside my comfort zone. I just had some fun. I just played with the light.
One photo a day challenge: Day 334. Picked out a different piece of Christmas decoration to pair with my Christmas lights today. Black background. White board underneath. I experimented with using different configurations of lights. Moving different lights. Moving the lights in different directions. And I tried moving the lights at different speeds. Colored lights vs monochrome lights. I settled on this image as my favorite of this batch. One of my… Read More
One photo a day challenge: Day 333. More playtime with light. But I guess that doesn’t really say much since that is essentially what all photography is. Lets rephrase. More playtime with long exposures and moving light. Trying to figure out what to photograph today. I was looking around and saw this snowflake decoration we have. I thought I might be able to do something interesting with it. I set up my… Read More
