One Photo A Day | Day 85 | Do You See A Dog?

One photo a day challenge: Day 85.

We took our dog, Colton, out for a walk along the trails near the Chemung River in Elmira, NY.

I of course took my camera as well.

I had dog walking duties for the first half of the walk. Colton was being a maniac. It seemed he may rip someone’s arm off yanking on his leash. The hope was I could reign him in until he got tied.

Not sure I succeeded.

On the second half of the walk I took the lens cap off my camera and began shooting.

I had my Nikon 50mm f1.8 ready to go. I shot the photos in my preferred style set to shallowest depth of field possible at f1.8.

The concept that I wanted to create was to photograph a tree trunk in the foreground and have the focus on the tree trunk. Then I wanted to have my wife and our dog in the background. The hope was that my wife and our dog would be very soft and out of focus, but still be recognizable as a person and a dog.

This is one of the best photos I created in that style. Not sure if I truly accomplished my goal. Can you recognize that there is a person and a dog walking together in the background. Would you be able to tell if I didn’t tell you to look for it?

The background is the key.

Success! You're on the list.
