My Favorite Abstract Race Photos From My GoPro

When I first started creating these images it was completely by acccident. And I don’t think I liked them very much. They were not what I was hoping to create.

Now if I photograph an event and I come back without at least a few interesting swirly images I am a bit disappointed.

Over the years I have earned what conditions are more likely to create this sort of effect and when I will end up producing more standard looking images.

Using a GoPro camera takes a lot of the control a photographer traditionally has away from them. The GoPro itself makes the calculations and determines the settings for each image. There isn’t a manual mode. My job as a photographer is to get outside with the camera as much as possible and point it at things that might be interesting. Then I see what the GoPro does with the circumstances we are presented with.

The GoPro and I are much more of a team. We work together. And one of the biggest aspects of creating this art is simply getting out there and using the camera.

That is true of most art forms. Just create and see what happens. Don’t be too quick to judge the results. Be open to something new and you may find that you really like it.
