Photography Treasure Hunt: Find All The Waterfalls

One of my favorite types of photography to pursue is landscape photography. And within that field of photography one of my favorite niches is waterfall photography. There are so many reasons to love waterfalls. But, I am not going to get into every single on of them here in this short post. I often write about waterfall photography so search on my site for waterfalls to learn more.

Waterfalls are the type of subject I will drive around in search of an opportunity to photograph one. Especially if it is a new to me waterfall. There isn’t a whole lot better than photographing a new waterfall for the first time.
The challenge of waterfall photography is that they are landscape defendant.. They are only going to occur where there are changes of elevation. So if you live in very flat areas photographing waterfalls will be more challenging.

But the good new is there are likely more waterfalls around you than you even realize. I have been photographing waterfalls for a long time, but it often revolved around the few beautiful well known locations that I was aware of. Then I bought a book detailing waterfall locations all around the region of New York where I live.
I could not believe how many there are. And how many that I was unaware of that were actually pretty close by. I have been trying to travel around and photograph as many as I can in the years since I bought that book.
Waterfalls are not always waterfalls though. Some waterfalls are only seasonal and dry up in warmer conditions. So, it is always a good idea to explore the same areas multiple times in different seasons and weather conditions.

Waterfalls also do not have to be these huge whopping falls. They can be much more modest. Tiny even.
But if you have a zoom lens you can get in close and create some interesting images. No one will never know how tiny that waterfall is in actuality except you and the camera.
Go for a drive and look for a waterfall to photograph today.
