My Favorite Creeks And Streams: Loyalsock Creek

I love to photograph water. Particularly bodies of water in landscapes. More specifically water that moves through a landscape.

It doesn’t have to be a huge flowing river, or a massive waterfall. Even a small trickle over some rocks can draw my attention. And the more opportunities for different photos there are the better. This is why creeks and streams are so amazing. They are abundant. And the landscapes around them can be so different.

My favorite such place is the Loyalsock Creek in Pennsylvania.

I spent far too long not even being aware of the Loyalsock Creek’s existence. I was first introduced to it in 2018 as I was training for my first ultra marathon at Worlds End State Park. This is one of the areas through which the Loyalsock Creek flows.

Loyalsock Creek is a 64 mile long body of water that is a tributary of the West Branch Susquehanna River. And while I have explored a scant bit of it I find what I have seen to be extremely beautiful. Most of what I have seen lies within the Loyalsock State Forest and Worlds End State Park.

One of the features that I love about this body of water is that even in the small amount of it I have seen it flowers through wide ranging types of landscapes. In one area it carves its way through a gorge. And in another area it is wide open and surrounded by forest.

And another feature I live about it is all the rocks. I love a body of water with rocks sticking out of it. That creates a lot more interesting subject to me. And it gives me many different ways to compose and image and interesting things to focus on.

If you have not been to the Loyalsock Creek I highly recommend it. Do you have a favorite creek? Share it with us in the comments.
