Hiking increases photography

Hiking. I enjoy hiking. I often seek out trails to hike and explore them with my camera. This can vary from local river trails right in town, to local nature centers, nearby state parks and trails that traverse the entire state but passes nearby where i live.

Finding spring wildflowers during a hike at one of my favorite locations.

Hiking is great for photography because you truly never know what you will see while you are out on a trail. This is especially true if you go somewhere you have never been for a hike. But even if you go to the same place regularly you can’t anticipate everything.

Sure, if you go hiking in the same woods regularly you can count on there being trees. But, what condition will those trees be in. Will some have died. Will there be new growth on some trees. Did the recent storms topple any trees. Those are the things you can capture with your camera. You can focus on the changes from one visit to the next.

The scenery is always enhanced if the hike features a pond.

And, often each trail will look different depending on the time of year or what the weather has been like recently. A dry scene looks very different than a wet scene. Or even a snow covered scene. Bare trees, new buds, full green leaves, or colorful fall foliage.

Wildflowers often bloom for relatively short periods of time. So if you have not been on a certain trail at just the right time of year, you may not even know what wildflowers you are missing out on.

Try to go out to different trails at different times of year and under different circumstances. Your photography will thank you.

I love to get outside and feel the vibes of a big green space.
