Green Leaf | Tiny White Butterfly | Maine
I love the look of this almost completely white tiny little butterfly contrasted against a green leaf.
This is also a fairly unique photo for me at least in a certain aspect.
I was able to create this photo using a 60mm macro lens.
That means that I had to get really up close to this little butterfly to make it appear this large in the frame.
Most of my butterfly photos are taken with a longer lens. That way I don’t have to get that close to the subject.
Often butterflies are easily scared off if you try to get close. That is why I generally use a longer lens.
It is unusual for me to be able to get this close to a butterfly.
Being able to get close up to the butterfly and use my macro lens also lends another nice effect.
The macro lens has a shallow depth of field. So the main focus of the image is on the butterflies body and then the sharpness falls off quickly. I like that effect in this photo.
This photo was taken at the Wild Gardens of Acadia at Acadia National Park in Maine.
