After The Run | Go For A Hike | Taughannock Falls

Today I was up in the Ithaca, NY area. I was there to run the first of the January, Winter Chill 5k series hosted by the Finger Lakers Runners Club.

The Winter Chill 5k series is a members only series of 5k races that takes place each Sunday in January. I have never done this series before but it seemed like a good way to commit to keeping my training going in January. The event was a fun casual race environment.

The race was intended to be run on the paved path along the lake inlet at Cayuga Lake. But due to inclement weather that turned the paths into more of a skating rink the FLRC pivoted to a more cross country style event running laps around the fields at the park.

It was an interesting experience. I almost brought my trail shoes but instead I ended up running cross country on the snow in my Saucony Kinvara’s. So that was interesting. You can check out how that went for me on my Strava at Kyle Reynolds.

Post Run Hike

I always try to take advantage of any situation that takes me near good photography options.

Ithaca has plenty of beautiful scenery. The race location put me right near Taughannock Falls State Park.

Taughannock is such a beautiful place. I simply could not pass up the opportunity to create some images of this winter wonderland. I changed my clothes and hiked the 1 mile each way to the amazing waterfall.

It is so cool to see the ice forming along the gorge walls as the mist freezes to the stone.
