My Favorite Scenic Overlook

There is no understating how powerful a great scenic overlook can be. Great places to experience landscapes. Looking out over the countryside for miles and miles.
Some scenic views require more work than others. For views at some locations you have to climb a mountain. Maybe you just have to walk down a short path. Others you can just pull right up in your car.

Some locations offer one simple and beautiful view. Other locations offer a couple of options for seeing the scenery. Occasionally you find a location like one of my favorite parks, Letchworth State Park where there are several different locations to stop and look out over the landscape.
Then there is Shenandoah National Park.
For me it is all about a great place to watch a sunrise or sunset. And part of the at means having a scenic vista that is relatively easy to access. During our visit to Shenandoah National Park we found that this can go to a whole new level.
The 100 mile long Skyline Drive that traverses the entire park features countless scenic overlooks. It feels like there is a new overlook every couple of miles. And the overlooks are simple to access. Just pull over your care. Get out. And look around.
Many of these scenic overlooks offer expansive views of the surrounding countryside. I did some reasearch into what places were the best for watching a sunrise or sunset and we made sure to check out those places specifically for those occasions.

It is really hard to pick out just one scenic overlook that is the best at Shenandoah especially since I probably did not visit all of them equally or at the optimum times for beautiful photographs.
However, during our limited explorations Sandy Bottom Overlook really stood out. I highly recommend making a trip to Shenandoah National Park and watching the sun set at Sandy Bottom Overlook.
