My Favorite Hiking Trail: Finger Lakes Trail

I really enjoy being outside in nature. Most of the time I like to be moving through nature. Trying to see all that I can see. For me moving through nature mostly means following hiking trails.

There are several nice local trails to enjoy a short hike on near where I live. But I really crave a sense of adventure. Even if it’s not really an adventure but trails I have been on many times. And a way to have that feeling is to get on a trail with a lot of potential.

And that is why my favorite hiking trail is the Finger Lakes Trail.

The Finger Lakes Trail is not entirely local to me, it requires a relatively short drive. And I think that is part of what lends it a sense of adventure. I have to plan to go there.

The other part of what makes it adventurous is that the Finger Lakes Trail has the potential to lead me “anywhere”. It can take me on along adventure or a short casual stroll. It all depends on what I feel in the mood for or have the time to prepare for.

The Finger Lakes Trail is nearly 600 miles long. And that is just the main trail. There are also many branches and loops that take the total miles over 1000.

I really enjoy seeing a wide variety of scenery. And that is exactly what the Finger Lakes Trail can deliver. Start in the woods. Cross into meadows. Walk along the border of farmlands. Descend down into gorges. Climb up steep slopes.

It is also great also a great experience not just as a hiker and nature lover but as a photographer. There are so many different types of photography opportunities. The terrain and landscape is always changing as you move along the trail.

I often make sure to bring some sort of camera with me whenever I am out on the trail because you never know what you might experience or see and as a photographer I hate to miss the chance for a unique photo.
