My Favorite Songbird: Eastern Bluebirds

I love birds. Birds are where my photography journey really began. Watching birds. Learning about birds. Reading about birds. I never realized how omnipresent birds are.

I started off photographing large birds. They were more obvious and noticeable. And in the world of songbirds there are more flashy and bold birds than the more common and easy to miss Eastern Bluebird. But there are few birds that will put on a show for you like an Easter Bluebird.
If you put up a simple birdhouse on a pole, a tree, or a fence there is a good chance you will attract an Eastern Bluebird. Or at least some bird to nest there, which is still great. If an Eastern Bluebird moves in they will be there for you day in and day out. They will live their lives side by side with you.
You can watch the birds build the nest. Then the parents will sit on the nest and you can watch them go back and forth from the birdhouse. After the eggs hatch it is amazing to watch the birds zip around the yard and catch bugs and bring them back to the nest to feed the hatchling.

The hatchlings will grow up right before your eyes. If you are really lucky you might get to see them fledge and leave the nest for the first time. Learning to fly and be one with the environment
I have had Eastern Bluebirds raise multiple clutches of eggs in my yard in one year. And the bluebirds often stay around long after the newborn birds have left the nest. Bluebirds are beautiful and exciting backyard companions.
