Your Community Surrounds You. Photograph It.

There are a lot of photography subjects that just came natural to me. Photographing them was just a natural extension of who I am. Turning my love of photography to that part of my life I already loved. Photographing nature, wildlife, dogs, and sports is just part of who I am.

It can take a little more effort and sometimes a little more planning to photograph subjects that don’t come natural to you. I’m not really a people person. I am pretty introverted. Large groups are not my thing. I struggle meeting new people. Does this sound like you?

Don’t let that stop you from photographing people. It doesn’t have to. Over the years I have photographed community events that involve hundreds of or thousands of people. The key is to do it in a way that works for you. My style is to be as unobtrusive as possible and try to melt into the background.

Creating art by photographing art
I have also photographed at on exhibit at museums and galleries. This is two fold. I just like to have nice photos of these pieces of art to look at. And I also like to try and create and image that captures some aspect of the larger work of art and transforms it into something at least a little different.
Then there are artists who create the art. I have photographed artists working on their craft. This is something I started experimenting in. Then we had a global pandemic. But now I am looking to get back into this aspect of photography.

What are aspects of your community that you enjoy, but never really thought of them as photography subjects? Try getting out of your comfort zone a little bit and experiment.
