One Photo A Day | Day 28 | Sketch
One photo a day challenge: Day 28.
Today I am literally just standing in my room and looking around. Looking for that next photographic subject. Letting my eyes wander. Letting my mind be free.
I really had no idea of what I wanted to photograph today. I went into my office with no intention other than to take a photograph. A photograph of….something.
Tonight I had no preconceived notions of what I wanted to photograph. I wanted to photograph something different. But I had no idea what that might be.
I often don’t feel like I am a particularly creative individual. I’m not the kind of person who can intentionally think up creative ideas. At least not the way I conceive of creativity.
But if I relax and free my mind I can glimpse this spark of intuition. Something might pop for me. I might just see something that I would not intentionally think about.
Today’s Subjects
Today my gaze swept across some art supplies I have bought over the years. Sketch pads. Drawing books. A case of pencils.
And I just knew those could be interesting subjects.

When I was a kid I used to like to draw. I don’t think I was ever very good at it, but I enjoyed it. Then you reach that age when you start judging yourself and evaluating yourself and you quit doing things you feel like you aren’t good at. I stopped drawing.
Every now and again I think about drawing and sketching. I pick up a sketch book or a pad. Buy some pencils. Draw a few rough sketches. But then I start judging myself and it gets put back on the shelf.
Well today I dusted off my pencils again, but not to draw, but for my photography.
