My Favorite Large Land Mammal To Photograph: White Tailed Deer

I often like to spend time photogrpahing things that might be considered ordanary. Parts of life that seem mundane. Something that is just normal.

Take that thing and shine a light on it. Stop and look more closely. See it for what it is. Don’t just ignore it.

This is what I think of when I think of the often Maligned Whited Tailed Deer.

White Tailed Deer are relatively common, especially if you live anywhere close to any form of woodlands or open country. They can feel ubiquitous. Always seen and often cursed.

Always in the road. The road that we built through their homes. Always eating out flowers, gardens, and trees. The ones we planted where they live.

I love any visit I have from wildlife. If they happen to treat my plants as fodo for them rather than how I would prefer they be treated then that seems a fiar trade. For I get to look at them and watch them live their lives. I am privaledge to see animals grow and roam and live. I beer whitness to the wonders of nature. Even righ tin my own yard.

Just outside my door or waiting for me in my driveway are often a few White Tailed Deer. I see them. They see me. They don’t bother me so why should I bother them.

I do wish I spent more time photographing them. I often see them at inopportune times. I really need to get back in the habit of always carrying my camera with me.

It takes a little more planning and attention to photograph the white tailed deer since they are most active in the early morning hours or evening hours. I need to be more detail oriented and plan specific time stop go and look for the deer in places and times where I know they are likely to be.

I enjoy that deer exist living their lives right along side ours.
