Love Your Pets And Love Photographing Them

I always advocate for photographing what you love. One of the things I love most and that bring me the most joy are the animals I share my life with. We have been fortunate to fill our home with so many dogs and even cats over the years. They have all been a prominent part of my photography.

I often take my dogs outside in the yard and play with them and photograph them having fun. I like to hike. When I hike sometimes that includes a dog. And sometimes that also includes a camera. When a hike involves both a dog and a camera it is highly unlikely that a photograph of a dog will not be taken.

When I go on vacation photography is a big part of that experience for me. Sometimes we take our dogs along with us for our vacation adventures. When we do the dogs definitely feature in a fair share of the photographs. And taking the dogs is a great way to make sure I am capturing more of the memories than just the amazing scenic vistas. Having the dogs at camp with us inspires me to photograph what it is like at camp as well. The dogs laying on a blanket, digging a hole, or playing with a toy. It is just as important to appreciate the simple things in a trip.

We have dressed our dog sup in Christmas costumes. And the dogs love opening presents. On these occasions there is also often a camera present with me standing behind it. Capturing the holidays includes whatever the dogs are up to. Even if it is caused by the humans.

To create memories with your pets you often don’t even leave the house. And you can capture these memories of simple life at home with indoor photography. You just have to add a little extra light most of the time, unless you get a lot of natural light streaming in through the windows. And if you do, just know that I am extremely jealous.

And don’t forget about the cats. They are often just indifferent tot he photography, but I think that is just cats in general. But having cats around all the time, plus the increased focus on daily creation of photography from a one photo a day project led to me photographing indoors a lot more. And in trying to have more diverse subjects I photographed our cats more than ever before.
