My Favorite Photos Of People

My art centers around nature. The motto of my business is The Foundation of All Things Natural.
With those defining characteristics I find my work taking many different avenues. But what ties it all together most often is this feeling of the natural.
There isn’t much I don’t find interesting or beautiful about photography. But there are certain things that I am not particularly drawn to myself in my work as a photographer. The biggest of those things is photographing people.

The way people do fit into what I love about photography is in a very naturalistic way.
If I am going to photograph people I am going to photograph people being who they are. People raw and natural. People doing things of their own volition.
If I am photographing a person prefer to be there proverbial fly on the wall. I don’t want my subject to be thinking about me and the fact that I am photographing them. I would prefer that they did not even know that I was there.
One place where photographing people takes center stage is in photographing sports. But I really hit my sweet spot photographing trail running. The subject of the image is the runner, but I try to show them in the natural world that they have chosen to enjoy.
Photographing nature feels like it is in my bones after all these years practicing the art. For a long time I used to go as far out of my way to eliminate any element of the human world from the framing of my image when composing it before clicking the shutter. That I secured people as well. Now I try to be a little more open minded and allow for depicting people out in nature. I like the idea of creating art that shows people enjoying the world around them. It helps me remember that it isn’t just me out. Here who loves this world we inhabit.

Another aspect I like to capture is humans creating. Brining art into existence is a powerful thing. I like to photograph artists working on creating their art. There are so many aspects of creation that are interesting and can be captured in a variety of ways. Artists are engrossed din their work. They are not thinking about me over here with my camera. The art they are creating is the focus. Not the art I am hoping to create. Images of others creating art helps me to have hope for this world.
