My Favorite Photographs Of Art

I love art. I love to create art. And I love to photograph art.

I like to photograph art in ways that showcases it differently. Trying to put a spin on it that makes it look a little different than it does when you first look at it.

I often photograph large pieces of art. But I find one or more aspects of the overall piece that I find particularly interesting and I zoom in and focus on those things. Maybe it is something that might go overlooked or unnoticed when taking in the larger piece.

I also like to use a shallow depth of field and photographs art at an odd angle instead of straight on. Using this technique I can isolate a particular part of a work of art in a different way. The focus of the image is on one small slice of the overall piece of art. Everything else is thrown out of focus.

I also love public art. And This is something that really seems to be making a comeback in our region. I grew up with a few memorable pieces of art in our town that are still there to this day. But over the years more has been created. Art has been incorporated into construction of overpasses and round about. New art has been created in public parks. Artists have been painting fire hydrants, electric boxes, and viaducts.

But maybe the greatest gift of all is seeing art being created. The act of creation itself is so powerful and moving. Someone using their time and talent to create something that will inspire some feeling in another person. That is a powerful act. And I love having the opportunity to photograph artists at work.
