My Favorite Autumn Leaves: Red Leaves

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love seeing the leaves change colors in the fall. Maybe that is you, but it definitely is not me. I love the changing colors of tree leaves.

I love the time of year when the leaves start to change. The new colors appearing in the world bring a new sense of vibrancy to being outside in the cooling temperatures of the season. I am all for any and all color changes and new things to photograph. However, I really love when I can find red leaves to photograph.

I never feel like I get enough opportunities to photograph the changing fall leaves. I wish it could last longer. Maybe more fall leaves and less oppressive summer heat. As someone who loves photography but it is not my full time job it can be challenging to find time to get out and photograph the beautiful autumn scenery.

I am not sure what it is about the red leafed tress in autumn that draws me to them. I am not a big fan of red in other aspects of life. No thanks to red cars or red clothes. Maybe I am drawn to red leaves because they seem relatively rare in the area where I live and experience fall the most.

Most red leaves I encounter during the fall are on or from maple trees it seems. At least the ones that turn the bright shade of red I really enjoy. I know that some oak trees can have leaves that turn a deep almost maroon shade of red. And those are nice but not quite like the bright red I prefer.

Maybe one thing that I like about the bright red as it pertains to my photography is that the color red is a big contrast from other colors. Especially colors found in nature. I cannot think of too many times the color red appears in nature. Especially not in large quantities.
