My Favorite New York State Park

I am fortunate to live in an area where I can hop in my car and drive to any number of state parks in around an hour to an hour and a half. Many of those state parks are in New York. And while I don’t have a state park that is right in my own back yard I have so many within a decent drive that it is a huge reason I love where I live. If I moved closer to many one location I would likely lose touch with several other places I love. I am centrally located to be within arms reach of so many great places.
What makes a park great for me is that it has multiple aspects that fits into the kinds of things that I enjoy doing. For me Robert Treman State Park checks so many boxes. There are just so many reasons to love this place.

First of all you can visit this park any time of year in any season and it is like having a completely different experience on each visit. Beautiful wildflowers in the spring. Lush foliage in the summer. Beautiful colors in the fall. And dramatic ice and snow in the winter.
I love beautiful scenery Robert Treman State Park offers a variety of scenic locations. The lower part of the park with open fields and one enormous waterfall where you can swim in the summer. There is an upper park with beautifully shaded picnic tables and enormous trees and the beginning of the gorge. And you can follow the gorge trail down for some amazing views.
Hiking is readily available. There is a gorge trail and a rim trail to make a nice loop through the park. And there are a few side trails to explore. There is also my favorite trails, the Finger Lakes Trail, which runs the length of the park so on any given visit you can hop on the FLT and hike for miles and miles. These trails are also great for running. And you can connect to another nearby state park at Buttermilk Falls State Park.
All of these things also combine to give me a vast array of ways to enjoy my photography.
