First New Flowers Of 2024

I love spring. It is a time of growth and renewal. It feels like anything is possible.
And it is the beginning of the opportunities to start photographing flowers again. I never thought I would enjoy photographing flowers so much but it is something I have really grown to love. I look forward to it every year.

I love to see fresh outdoor flowers beginning to be stocked in all my favorite stores. The impulse to buy some and take them home to photograph is irresistible. So I recently bought two plants and brought them home.
I really like to buy flowers I have not gotten before or in color variations I haven’t had before. It is really nice for photography and it provides a nice variety in colors for the yard.
Ideally I get as many perennials as I can. I like the idea of growing plants year over year and watching the plants grow and mature. The change in shape and size over the years is always a wonder to see. And I don’t have a particularly green thumb so I typically buy a lot so that hopefully some of them survive.
On this occasion I picked up two perennials. One plant was a Giles Van Hees Speedwell and I don’t think I have ever seen that variety before. The other plant was an Earlybird Red Yellow Columbine. I have had Columbine plants before but never this color variety. I thought this color variety was particularly attractive.
