One Photo a Day | Day 137 | Junco Cherry Tree

One photo a day challenge: Day 137.

I wanted to do a little bit of bird photography today. I often sit near our bird feeders and watch the birds from there. Today I wanted to walk around our yard to see if anything interesting was happening at the borders of our yard.

Often you can find interesting birds where two different kinds of environments meet. We are fortunate to have areas on our property where several types of environments intersect.

There are areas where forest meets wetlands at thee edge of a pond. Forest meeting mown yard. Forests meting rewilding fields. Mown yard meeting trees and shrubs along the roadside. We also have various small chunks of landscaping we have done throughout the yard to try to provide habitat.

Today I stepped outside the front door and the first thing I saw was a pair of Dark-Eyed Juncos sitting on the fence that separates some of our landscaping from the rest of our yard right in front of our house. One of the Juncos flew from the fence to our flowering cherry tree.

I don’t think I have ever been able to capture an image quite like this before. When I took the photograph I had a feeling that this would end up being the photo I shared today.
