Traveling Reveals The New

I definitely have photography subjects that are my favorite. Some subjects I just gravitate to and seek out. Dogs, Flowers, and Waterfalls just to name a few.

But mostly what I enjoy falls into categories. Then there are parts of those categories that I don’t regularly get to experience. That is where doing a little bit of traveling comes in to play.

When you travel explore the new and novel.

When you are away from your home territory that is the time to try to get those photographs you might not otherwise get to take.

Beaches

I’m not really a beach person, but when I end up in a location with a beautiful beach I make sure to take photos.

I love nature photography. I especially enjoy landscapes. But there are some type of landscapes I am not typically drawn to. For example I don’t really like big sandy beaches. It just makes me think of crowds of people baking in the summer sun. Both things I do not enjoy. So when I have the chance to photograph a sandy beach that just happens to be at one of my favorite places, I make sure to create some art there.

Mountains

I really enjoy hiking. Getting out into nature and having an adventure always suits me. And I always try to have my camera with me. The area I live in has a lot of natural beauty. But one thing it lacks is scenic Mountian views. I love to climb a mountain and look out over the expansive scene before me.

Dogs

I love dogs. Like really love dogs. And I see dogs every day at home. And I often do things that bring me into contact with other dogs. But the best things about dogs is that you can find them anywhere. So I appreciate every interaction I get to have with a dog while I am away from home. It helps me to get that dog fix that I need every so often when I don’t see my dogs at home.

I love having an opportunity to stop at a dog park while I am in new places.

Birds

Birds have been one of my earliest fascinations in photography. It started off as a way to practice photography. Trying to gain skills for wildlife photography. But I really grew to love birds of all types. I enjoy learning about them and seeing and hearing them in all their colors shapes and sounds. But birds are often geographically specific. So when you are traveling you may see birds you have never seen before. That is how I got this photograph of an Anna’s Hummingbird when I was out in California fora conference. Always bring the camera.

Also, keep your eyes open for birds you don’t see at home while traveling. I saw this Rufous Hummingbird when in Anaheim California.
