The sky. It’s all around us. You look out a window or go outside, and there it is. You don’t have to make much of an effort to find it. I love the sky. Sky is an important part of photography. But, I often only think of the sky as one element of a photograph. And the sky is not usually the subject of the photograph. They sky is “just the background”…. Read More

I love to get out on a good old dirt trail. These days I am more often than not running rather than hiking. Running allows me to explore and see more. But there is nothing better than a slow ramble down a trail taking photographs. Trails are magical portals that take you to another world. They may lead a few feet or hundreds of miles. You may arrive at a peaceful pond…. Read More

Watkins Glen State Park is a beautiful location. Maybe one of the most beautiful locations I have ever been to. The park is beautiful all around. And I am fortunate to live right nearby. The beauty of the park is almost overwhelming. There are parts of the park where the beauty is more concentrated. The beauty of the park takes on a spectacular quality. As in the beauty becomes dramatic and eye… Read More

It is really hard for me to put into words why I love trees. There is just something magical and mystical about trees. Trees can be almost anything you can imagine. Take on any form, shape, or size. No two trees are alike. A tree can be a 6 foot tall flowering cherry tree or it can be a two hundred foot tall sequoia. What even is a tree? Is it a… Read More

I have not always been a morning person. It is something that I have actually been struggling with lately. For a good stretch of time I had gotten myself in the routine of going to bed at 10 PM and getting up at 5 AM every day. It was a good routine for me. Along the way in recent years something broke down. And I haven’t been able to find that fit… Read More

We had planned on going to an arts festival today, but the forecast was for rain all day long. So, we decided to stay home and relax instead. The decision to stay home ended up allowing me to create my own unique collection of art. I went outside to photogrpah our flowers that we have planted and it started to rain. It rained for a good long time, but it stopped well… Read More

It is hard to beat a beautiful sunset. I think sunsets might be one of the most universally cherished scenes. Sunsets happen everywhere. Everyone can see a sunset. Sunsets occur along city skylines or out in nature. You can experience sunsets out on an adventure. But there is also simple joy in experiencing a sunset while relaxing at home. Maybe you are even just sitting inside watching TV and happen to look… Read More

My wife and I were able to get out for a nice trip up to one of my favorite birding spots, Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. We usually expect to see a lot of Osprey and Bald Eagles on our trips there, but they stayed away for the most part. We could see Osprey flying high in the sky off in the distance, but they never came close for good looks or photographs.

We as people often have many things we want to do or accomplish in our lives. And just as often we have many things we simply never get around to doing. There are an infinite number of reasons and excuses why we may not get something done that we have always wanted to do. Often the most obvious reason we don’t get something done is that we haven’t prioritized it. As a… Read More

One of my favorite ways to spend my time is by visiting state parks. State Parks provide so many opportunities to enjoy nature. And the variety of ways we can enjoy nature abounds at these state parks. Where I live I am fortunate to be within driving distance of several state parks. While all the state parks I love offer a lot to love, sometimes there is more to love when there… Read More
